NASHVILLE, TN (February 20, 2009) - The year of Mary Mary continues as the dynamic gospel duo of sisters Erica and Tina Campbell continue their award winning year with the announcement of the 2009 Dove Awards. Mary Mary garnered four nominations for Contemporary Gospel Album (The Sound), Urban Recorded Song ("Get Up" and "Love Him Like I Do") and Group of the Year. On the heels of the Dove Award announcements, the 2009 Grammy Award and NAACP Image Award winners were also announced as performers at the White House. Mary Mary will join Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, Will.i.am, and others on Wednesday, February 25th when they perform in honor of Stevie Wonder who will receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. President and Mrs. Obama will also be on hand to honor the legendary genius and the once-in-a-lifetime concert will be broadcast on PBS stations across the country the following night.
Both Erica and Tina are excited about the success of their breakthrough album, The Sound, but can't thank God enough for the many blessings He continues to bestow upon them. "Words will never be able to express how thankful we are that God continues to give us favor and allows us to minister the good news of the gospel in the unique way He gave to us," says Erica. Concurs Tina, "Just look at God! Erica and I are excited about what God is doing in us, through us and for us and we plan to enjoy the path that He's taking us and use every open door to introduce others to His goodness and love."
In addition to their multiple nominations, producer Warryn Campbell of My Block Records, Inc. (Erica's husband and long time Mary Mary producer and co-writer) also received accolades of his own garnering five Dove Award nominations for both Mary Mary's The Sound and Kiera Sheard's album, Bold Right Life.
The Sound has received enormous praise since its release in October 2008 entering the Billboard Top 200 at #7, #1 on Billboard's Gospel Chart, #1 on Billboard's Christian Chart and #2 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Their # 7 debut on the Top 200 gave Mary Mary their highest charting -- and second Top 10 -- album on that chart (2005's Mary Mary peaked at #8 on the Top 200). Mary Mary and The Sound have achieved the highest chart debut on the Top 200 of any gospel album in 2008.
Beyond the music, The Sound also marks the launching point for a new phase in the sisters' career. The singers will continue to expand the Mary Mary brand to territories such as bath and beauty with their line 'Be U', the 'Be U' book (to inspire young girls and women), children's books and music, television, and more. Soon you will be able to see Mary Mary reprise their role as judges for the hit Viacom/Black Entertainment Television (BET) series Sunday's Best and the gospel pair are in the process of finalizing plans for their first US tour in two years.
